According to the 2010 Census, the City of Becker has a total of 1,644 housing units. This is a 37% increase over the last 10 years. Of the total housing units, 1,526 were occupied and 118 or 7% were vacant. This shows that vacancy rates have been improving by about 3% since the last census. See Table 9.1 Comparison of Housing Units
The city currently has six residential projects actively being developed. This development will provide the city with a total of 412 lots accommodating one to two unit housing at full-build out, leaving an excess of 175 lots yet to be developed within the five projects. See Table 9.5 City of Becker Current Development Projects
Table 9.2 below shows a comparison of total owner-occupied and renter-occupied housing between 2000 and 2010. Of the total occupied housing units in 2000, 65% were owner-occupied while 27% were renter-occupied. This is in comparison to 78% being owner-occupied while 22% were renter-occupied in 2010. This would indicate that occupant ownership is rising while renter-occupied units, by total percent, decreasing.
The majority of housing units (See Table 9.3) in Becker are single family dwellings (84.9%). Structures with 10 to 19 units and 20 or more units provide the second and third largest housing types in the city. This would reflect that while most residents live in single family dwellings, there are a number of residents that live in moderately to large multi-family dwellings which are likely apartment buildings.
